In 2008, my life was turned upside down when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. An autoimmune disease that forced me to start everything from scratch. I had to learn to constantly monitor my emotions and my diet, without which, balance and stability were difficult for me to achieve.
I started yoga when I realised that I was breathing from the top of my chest rather than diaphragmatically and that yoga could help me breath correctly.
I remember my first class. I felt quite uncomfortable with the spirituality aspect, but that was a one-off. What I realised more, was just how stiff I was!
My first approach to yoga was purely physical, developing awareness of my body. As I deepened my practice, I began to enjoy meditation, a calmer mind and gentler breathing.
I couldn’t explain it, but I couldn’t go too long without practising – something was missing inside me when I didn’t practise. From that moment on, I knew that there was more to yoga than just the physical aspect.
Yoga became a passion, a way of life and as a natural progression, I started teaching in 2014, initially with friends. Teaching became my way of sharing all my beautiful experiences with the practice and their benefits.
